Second edition: award to the best doctoral thesis

Second edition: award to the best doctoral thesis

ASEVA announces the call for the second edition of awards to the best doctoral thesis defended from September 2017 to February 2019. A significant part of the thesis work should involve vacuum technologies.

The candidates may not be members of ASEVA but in that case, they should be endorsed by a member of ASEVA.

The prize consists of an economical reward (to be determined),   an invited talk in the IBERTRIVA-2019 conference and the gratuity of the corresponding conference fees.

Candidates should send their PhD manuscript (.pdf) and a CV by email before 10th March 2019 to info.aseva@icmm.csic.es

EWEG2D 2018

4th European Workshop
on Epitaxial Graphene and 2D Materials (EWEG2D’2018)

Salamanca (Spain) 21. – 24. May 2018

Welcome to the 4th edition of the European Workshop on Epitaxial Graphene and 2D Materials (EWEG2D’2018). EWEG2D’2018 is an international workshop that gathers together the scientific community which have a common interest: the study of the structural, electronic, magnetic and optical properties of Graphene and 2D Materials epitaxially grown on well-defined substrates. Materials of interest are graphene and its derivatives, its elemental analogues (silicene, germanene, antimonene), hexagonal boron nitride, and transition metal dichalcogenides, but also less common systems as phosphorene or group III monochalcogenides (e.g., GaSe). Also advanced materials in the form of nanostructures and lateral in-plane or vertical van-der-Waals stacked heterostructures fall into the field of the workshop.

EWEG2D’2018 addresses the experimental determination of structural, electronic, magnetic and optical properties of supported and freestanding 2DMs, as well as theoretical modeling of such properties and prediction of new 2DMs. The workshop includes studies on the interaction of 2DMs with their environment, for example the adsorption of atoms or molecules, or the interaction with light, electric or magnetic fields.  Special attention is given to the interaction of 2DMs with their substrate and the way it changes their properties.

Best IUVSTA image contest!

Best IUVSTA image contest!

Best IUVSTA image contest!

During IVC20 in Korea a collaborative project to modernize the IUVSTA web-site was launched. The best entries will be awarded during next ECM in Slovenia.

Please send the images before December 15, 2016 to anouk.galtayries@sfr.fr or via Dropbox.

This is a call for collecting your best images depicting experiments, techniques, samples, spectrometers, UHV/vacuum devices, working scientists, innovative applications etc. related to the IUVSTA scientific and technical domains. The goal is to make the web-site an effective tool for communication and to enhance the visibility of the Union and Member Societies’ activities.

Please send us illustrations that you have in your national societies, research laboratories, companies to be used in our upgraded web site.

Note that the images have to be copy-right-free; full credits to the authors will be given. Please, provide a brief caption describing the image.

Nice colors, nice shapes, nice photographic effects are very welcome! (more…)

80th IUVSTA Workshop: Ultra Low emittance light source vacuum systems

80th IUVSTA Workshop: Ultra Low emittance light source vacuum systems

80th IUVSTA Workshop: Ultra Low emittance light source vacuum systems

The goal of this workshop is to find the best solutions on the vacuum design and the manufacturing processes for those upgrade projects, ongoing or being planned, of synchrotron light source facilities to achieve the ultra-low emittance of < 0.5 nm·rad. There are many challenging issues on vacuum design and engineering under debate and need to be well evaluated by the vacuum experts from the worldwide institutes or facilities. This workshop provides a forum for intensive discussions after each presentation.
